CAT-2014

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a  held in India. This test scores a person on the bases of quantitative ability, data interpretation, verbal ability and logical reasoning. The) started this exam and use the test for selecting students for their business administration programs. The test is conducted every year by one of the  based on a policy of rotation. In August 2011, it was announced  Indian Institutes of Technology  and Indian Institute of Science would also use the CAT scores, instead of the Joint Management Entrance Test, to select students for their management  from 2012-14 year.

HISTORY -

       Before 2009, CAT was a paper based test conducted on a single day for all candidates. The pattern, number of questions and duration have seen considerable variations over the years.

On 1 May 2009, it was announced that CAT would be a Computer Based Test starting from CAT 2009. The American firm been entrusted With the responsibility of conducting the computer based test. The first computer based CAT was marred by technical snags.[6] The issue was so serious that it prompted the Government of India to seek a report  The two viruses that attacked the system display of the test, causing severe slow down.

Exam format

The Common Admission Test (CAT), like virtually all large-scale exams,  multiple forms, or versions, of the test. Hence there are two types of scores involved: a raw score and a scaled score.
The raw score is calculated for each section based on the number of questions one answered correctly, incorrectly, or omitted. Candidates are given +3 points for each correct answer and -1 point for each incorrect answer. No points are given for questions that are not answered. The raw scores are then adjusted through a process called equating. Equated raw scores are then placed on a common scale or metric to ensure appropriate interpretation of the scores. This process is called scaling.

SYLLABUS -
This is the most frequent question asked when one starts preparing for CAT. CAT is a test with no predefined syllabus, however past trends suggest that CAT tests in general aptitude including Verbal Ability (English),

CAT English/Verbal Ability: Reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, syllogisms, analogies, antonyms and synonyms, fill in the blanks, sentence correction, idioms, etc.
CAT Maths Ability: Number systems, geometry, trigonometry, probability, permutation combination, algebra, mensuration, time and work, averages, percentages, profit and loss, quadratic and linear equations, etc.
CAT Data Interpretation: Interpretation and analysis of data based on text, tables, graphs (line, area), charts (column, bar, pie), van diagram, etc.
CAT Logical Reasoning: Clocks, calendars, binary logic, seating arrangement, blood relations, logical sequence, assumption, premise, conclusion, linear and matrix arrangement, etc.

 


How to Apply
• Note: Payment of registration fee can be done through online modes only including credit card, debit card or through net banking.
• You do not have the option of choosing you preferred slot this time
• You must show original mark sheets and submit photocopies to prove your eligibility at the time of interview. Further, if you are selected for a original degree certificate and mark sheets along with your photocopies must be submitted for verification at the time of joining .

 CAT Exam 2014 Details of Eligibility and Paper Pattern -
The CAT (Common Admission Test) is conducted every year by the  Indian Institute of Management, the most premiere management institutes, to admit students in different management courses of two years duration.  Some other top management institutes in the country. The candidates appear in huge numbers every year to qualify in the concerned entrance exam. Those candidates who have not applied and wish to apply in the concerned exam can go through the detailed process of the examination selection and qualifying criteria from the information as given here below.

Eligibility for Admissions:
The candidates should possess the Bachelors Degree in Commerce/ Science/ Arts / any other disciplines with a minimum of 50% marks / equivalent  in the concerned qualifying examinations for this purpose.
Exam Pattern:
The CAT Exam is conducted in the online modes having objective type multiple choice based questions on the following main sections:
Section I: English (Verbal Ability)
Section II: Mathematics (Quantitative Ability)
Section III: DI (Data Interpretation)
Section IV: LR (Logical Reasoning)
Total Number of Questions: 60
Total Time Allotted: 155 Minutes
Marking Criteria:
The candidates will get three marks for each correct answer attempted by them while there will be deduction of the specified marks for the negative attempts made by the candidates. Hence, the candidates should attempt only those questions about which they are sure.
Date of Exam:
The CAT Exam is mostly organized in the months of October and November every year. There is a testing window of 21 days for all the exams.
The candidates should apply online from the concerned institute organizing the exam. The candidates are required to apply for the concerned slot at which they wish to give their examinations.
